      Shiai and other kendo terms in Korean

      So what is the Korean word for Shiai?

      The direct translation is shiap. Daewae is the same as taikai.

      Taik ai I have only seen in a fightingarts.com article used in the following context: "A taikia, or gathering of various schools of martial arts, is one of the best vehicles through which participants can experience other discipline through exhibitions, workshops and seminars."

      Is that the taik ai that you are referring to?

      Hi Daniel.
      That's the one. Taikai is the formal term for a competition. WKC is kumdo segyae daewae for example and the big competition in Kyoto during Golden Week is called Kyoto Taikai. I'll pm you an old file from Texas A&M with comparative terms in English, Japanese and Korean.
