There's a dan shimsa in two weeks? I thought the next one wasn't until November... I guess I'm thinking first-third dan, though.

Seoul Kumdo Federation is holding a 3/4 dan shimsa on July 19th. Where are you located? The shimsa up to 4 dan are managed by the local federations.

I'm down in Chonbuk. (Iksan) I guess that would explain the difference. Good luck!

Will probably need it. The part that is going to really suck for me is the bonguk gumbup. I haven't done that in over 10 years since my dad was taking his 8 dan... I may have to hide behind the fact that I am taking the test as a foreigner belonging to a different federation. I'll have to make a decision by next week...

Take care

Honestly, I forget bongugk kumbap completely well before every grading rolls around (Sabumnim asked me recently, and I was wrong three moves in). Same with the bon! I'm up for i-dan in November, and I guess I should start boning up a little bit. Pun intended. Still, you've got a couple of weeks. More than enough to get it down.

My problem here is the written test; for everyone else, the easiest part!

Best of luck for your grading. I will also have to fight with jet lag as I may need to fly in the day before the test because of work...

Will see how things work out and will keep you guys posted.

Take care

I've been a tkd and judo sabum for over 15 years and I still have to sit down to put trousers on... Some of the 17 year old kids coming up through the ranks today are better than I ever was as a 5 dan in either tkd or judo. I guess sabum is a title that I look at with some skepticism as I still remember my Dad saying he was finally beginning to sort out some of his basics 10 years ago when he got 8dan.

I guess it's just a question of practicing. The more you practice, the more stuff you find that you are doing wrong. Sort of depressing in one way and sort of inspiration in another...

The one thing I started missing when I hit 3 dan was the sheer mindless practice I could have. I was supposed to start being an example and slacking or playing were not an option. The fact that I substitute teach also means that I don't get to practice as much as I would want. I demonstrate and then correct... I only get to have the 45 minutes of daryun as the fun part. Teaching was good for me because it forced me to reassess a whole host of assumptions I had made in 22 years of playtime but it also meant that playtime was over... sigh.

Take care
